Crooked Letter Crooked Letter the theatre
On March 6th the Leistungskurs Englisch went to the Kulturhalle to see the theatre “Crooked Letter Crooked Letter” by Thomas Franklin.
This is the book we have to deal with in out Abitur exams, so the play gave us the chance to revise the story. Honestly, I went in with low expectations, since I didn’t really like the book. But the theatre group blew me away.
First of all, for a low-budget theatre group, the stage design looked miraculous. It was minimalistic, but you could understand what it should constitute. Secondly, the story was pretty well retold, since they told it chronologically, unlike the book did.
From my point of view, everyone, even if they didn’t read the book, could understand the story. However, the best thing about this theatre experience where the multi-ethnical actors, they played their roles so well and convincingly. Their pretty intense stage presence, particular the presence of the actor who played Silas Jones, made us pay attention even more.
All in all, I took great pleasure in watching “Crooked Letter Crooked Letter”.
